Hello, i am a 19 yr old artist. i finished high school last year and was denied to New world school of the arts in Downtown Miami this year. I since have built my portfolio to a more above average one. i don't want to say that im amazing because im not, but i am really good and am more than willing to learn even more. i wanted to major in Drawing/Painting originally, but i am becoming more and more intrigued with the world of animation. i have little to no experience with computer illustration programs, but again i am more than willing to learn. i am really confused as to which direction i want to take, so i would like to find a good school where i would be able to switch majors god forbid i had to.

i normally do very realistic and surrealistic drawings and paintings with either wild and crazy color schemes, or black and white. most of the work i have is done in oils, charcoal, and pencil. i consider my self to be more of a traditional artist rather than a conceptual one. i like to show a lot of feeling and emotions in my art.

the reason why i was denied at new world was because my "old school" ways of drawing and painting were not really what they wanted. they want to look towards the future, get ahold of the visionaries, and take art to a whole new frontier. then again they did accept two of my friends who have quite the imagination but not much skill. they cant even do a still life without getting the proportions wrong.

anyway, i have been looking into applying to a good art school for this fall. i think i deserve to be given an opportunity to become an artist. i want to know which are some good art schools, universities, academies, etc. i am not looking for the best since i doubt i can afford it, but i am looking for something good. i have been trying to find something but there is just so much out there and sooo many mixed reviews. i dont care where it is located, what state, what country, i dont care much how expensive it is. i just want to learn something useful and get a good education as an artist.

AND i do not want to hear anyone say anything about Art Institute! :)

thank you

Since you've been denied perhaps you can go to a community college for a year or two and transfer to that school. Universities always accept transfers AND your profile will be 'up to date"

Academy of Art University is a great school to go to for Animation. I studied it there and learned a lot! Since all of their instructors are industry experts, I was able to get a lot of valuable information, while preparing for success in life after college. Once I graduated, I landed a great job at Pixar. Some of my friends who have graduated from there have also gone on to work for big-name companies. You can see a list of companies that hire Academy grads by visiting http://www.academyart.edu/animation-school/index.html.
