Question:
If a college gives you an email address, does that mean you are admitted? Or all applicants get one?

So, I applied to a university, didn't hear from them for a while, called, then they told to activate me portal, and email. Now, does this mean that I am accepted, or do all admission applicants receive and email? All of the other colleges (that I got wait listed at, GRRR) only let me have portal access, but no email.

Don't you just love college?

Colleges only give admitted students e-mail addresses. Think about it - a college doesn't have enough server space to give every applicant an e-mail address.

This means that the college you applied to admitted you as a student. However, it's odd that they haven't given you official notification of your acceptance.

Hope this helps!

This really depends on the college. Some colleges do give email access to applicants while most only give it to admitted students. You need to contact the admissions office and ask them straight-up if you have been accepted and what you need to do in order to actually be admitted.

Accepted and admitted mean two different things. If you are accepted, you then decide whether to accept or decline the offer of admission. If you accept the offer of admission, then you are admitted and will be considered a student once you have registered and attended classes.

Well, if the end of the email address is the college/university name, then it means you are accepted.

Example: .....@rutgers.com

You do not get an e-mail unless you are enrolled as a student.
