I'm currently attending a California State University as a Pre-nursing major. This is my first semester and although I'm doing very well so far, I'm still scared that I might not make it into the program with a average GPA of 3.6. It's so impacted in the nursing program that the advisers are stressing for a 4.0GPA if possible. I can't even get all my classes because it's all full!

If I don't get in after the fourth sem. I'm planning to change major. Is it still possible for me to apply at another college? Maybe a California University?

During high school, my parents manipulated me into getting into the nearest CSU (30 min away from home). So I didn't try my hardest on my SAT--I shamefully got 1490. I applied only to 2 CSU s, though my GPA was 3.8 and was ranked top 50/400 students in my class.

OR does that not count anymore...?

It wouldn't count anymore so much as your college transcript would. It would be possible to transfer to a UC, but you will have to apply as a transfer and meet the requirements for either Lower Division or Junior.

Hopefully this can give you more information:

Do you suppose that you may get IB diploma? Actually, your GPA isn't that dangerous (of course, you might have accomplished higher), and your SAT, if in case you have just right list of extracurricular pursuits and leaderships, it can be covered. UC Irvine is very strict with the numbers, so I won't say unimaginable, however could be very intricate to get in. Nonetheless, all of the other UC schools you listed above are possible. Now not that they are any worse than UCI, but they have got tendency of giving second possibilities to the students. And trust me, although statistically, most UC scholars have GPA over four.0. No longer fairly. I graduated from united states (c/o 04) and i have noticeable particularly a few pupils with below four.0, and so they have been actual wise. So so long as you are taking full IB publications, attempt to preserve where you are standing, should you are not able to fortify dramatically. If quantative part is your vulnerable point in SAT, as others have suggested, are trying ACT. ACT tentatively simpler quantitative part than SAT. Additionally, write a individual personal declaration. UC admission process (differ by using each and every UC school) is 1/2 % via benefit, and the opposite half of via other non-acadmic stuffs. And private announcement takes a massive role. If which you could get into UC system, through all means, I discourage you to attend CSU. Enchantment is possible. You must have a excellent purpose for it and you must be very persevere on it. I truly have few acquaintances who bought into Cal via attractive process. But again, I think your current standing holds a danger to get into few UC approach without appealing techniques.

CSU to UC virtually wont happen if you aren't applying as an entering junior and if you are, your chances is only slightly higher than that. UCs (esp the popular ones like LA, Berkeley, SD, Irvine etc...) already get a lot more community college applicants than they can take, so it probably can't even look at the CSU applicants, due to the fact that it probably has no space.

Nursing is not an easy program to get into in any CA school, but its worth trying. You might need to stay at your current CSU, but you can look at other degrees it offers. Changing your major isn't that difficult. With the financial issues facing both systems, odds of a CSU to UC happening is almost the same as wining the CA lottery.
