Question:
What can I major in if I want to work for a Non-Profit Organization?

I want to work doing something for a non-profit organization. I also have plans on attending Purdue University which unfortunately doesn't offer a Non-Profit Management major or minor!

I am thinking about majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and getting a double major or a minor in a Sociology or Psychology program. Any helpful advice?

I am open to any helpful advice or suggestions, but at the same time have my heart set on Purdue.

Thanks Lots!

Those majors you mentioned would be good but non-profits also need financial wizards so a degree in economics and fund raising would probably get you a job faster (not all non-profits need more Sociologists or psychologists and most don't hire PR people in-house). Computer science is always useful since non-profits have to often maintain outdated computer equipment and can't spend a lot on someone to take care of their databases and websites and other computer things. Marketing would also be very useful (but again, non-profits don't always hire in-house marketing people full time). A familiarity with accounting would be useful too since they always have to produce statistics and reports to the government to keep their non-profit status. You should volunteer at a non-profit doing the type of work you are interested in and get to know how it works from the inside.

Social Work or Non-Profit Administration... Lindenwood University is St. Charles, MO offers both.

i know this doesn't help much but i would like to ask you a question. why would you want to work for a non- profit organization isn't life about money, food, and happiness?

It all depends on what you want to do for them. Fundraising? Try marketing, communications, and related fields.
