So im going to community college for two years then I plan to transfer to a state university. When I finish up in the community college which will be my General ed classes and some of my major classes.

Question 1:
Will it usually take 2-3 years at the university to obtain my bachelor's?

Question 2:
When in the University do I just have classes for my major?
Example: If im a business major I won't be taking anymore science classes right?

Good question! I loved junior college, but if you're wanting to transfer to a University meet up with an academic counselor from your community college. It's never too early!

They actually have many different forms with "ways to get to the University level". They can show you what classes to take, and where you'll be once you transfer. Some even have agreements with each other which makes it EASY to transfer. Once you're at the University, you could definitely finish in 2 years if you study hard and don't slack off.

Usually once you're in your major, you do not have to take any lower division GE classes. The only exception is if you are missing any GE, then you might have to take an advanced class in something unrelated to your major. For example, my senior year in college I had to take an upper division History class to fulfill some requirements even though all my other GE was done.

Answer 1:

It depends on how many of your credits transfer over. If you transfer over with at least 60 credits then it shouldn't take more than two years.

Answer 2:

If you get your General ed out the way in CC then you shouldn't need anymore classes. When you're a junior is when you start taking your major classes. For someone like a business major, you would only need the science classes that are required for the general ed. You'll be taking classes like tax, law, accounting ect.

In a lot of universities, you have to apply to the major/school you want to be in. You need to have all the prerequisite classes and a good GPA, usually that is how they determine if you will be accepted into the program. If you are getting all of your Gen ed classes out of the way at community college, it should only take you about 2 yrs to get your degree if you are going into something like business. As long as when you apply to the school, you also get accepted into the major program, you shouldnt have to take any prereq. classes like sciences or englishes. Then, most likely, you would take classes pertaining only to your major.
