I'm doing my bachelors in International Relations in the University of Edinburgh. I know it's a great university and all, but I HATE MY DEGREE. I studied so hard last semester but my low grades are really demotivating me. On top of that, every year there is so much I hate about my degree. It's all theory, it's all reading; there is NOTHING practical about it. I feel embarrassed when I say what my degree is. On top of everything, I am a full international student, so it's a waste of ALOT of money. I am done with my 3rd year of 4th now. I feel like I won't be able to get a job as I do not know what I want to do with my life, and I am going to be stuck with this ridicioulous degree. My parents tell me to suck it up and finish it but I am so depressed. Seeing my friends who have graduated over a year ago with no jobs because of the lack of jobs in the market makes me even more depressed. I really don't know what I should do. Ideally I would have liked to do a business degree, but it might be too late. I am already 22 years old...

It's never too late to change your major. There are quite a few of older students who went back to school because of the economy or because they are passionate about a subject. Of course, you will need to spend more money and time (but a lot of general courses apply to different majors too so it doesn't mean a full 4 years). If you hate your degree now, think about your senior year where you will need to do a thesis project, that will be hard for you if you don't like your major.

Or you can finish it and then apply to a business college. Either way you will need to spend more time and money.

You are only 22, you have plenty of time.

Go to the business department at your school and talk to an advisor about your options. Take a printed transcript of your classes you've done so far. You might consider International Business, or Business Information Systems of some kind, since both fields have an increasing demand for jobs. Only an advisor can tell you how much longer it will take, but even if it takes a couple of extra years, business degrees are usually the most practical subjects available at University.

1/ u're still young.

2/.- u've put in a lot of efforts. Would u like to give up in the middle ?

or u 'd try more just to finish the 4th year ?

3/ (just my personal ideas)

if u try more & get good mark in ur 4th year, u can be more confident...

imagine that : u can get a degee-with bad results in 3 years, but in ur last year, u make a breakthrough...some people have to think again...to see if you're competent or not. ...then u might get a job.

once u get a job, u can learn the practical part.

4/ Keep urself busy. After making up ur mind in 2/, u won't experience disorientation

Only if u can find another TRUE* orientation, then stop trying with that degree. .

Otherwise, try ur best in the last year...don't worry too much about the result in the future

p/s : u can search in the internet someway to overcome frustrations

O man, you have the best degree at one of the best university in the world, International Relations is something I wanted to to study then work in of the embassy or be part the world in government sectors. I wanted to do that for my masters but then I got better offer in better university, so I had to let it go. But you options are wide open, you can apply Embassies, Organizations, some government sectors, you can also apply for job in the international companies, because you know about the international laws and cultures. You need to look at it in the positive angle.

Go to the University of Iceland and get a BA in Icelandic and Danish. Get along with Scandinavians like a boss. They don't require tuition.
