Question:
Should I contact the school or not.?

Okay, so I applied to Appalachian State on November 28th to meet the December 1st early admission deadline. On November 30th, I received an e-mail asking me to send them my discipline record (Suspended freshman year, I hate how it's still following me). I e-mailed my school guidance counselor and he sent it via e-mail that day. They never contacted me about it again and I just assumed they had received the record and would carry on reviewing my application

Fast forward to two days ago. Everybody I know who applied was talking about getting in, getting deferred, or being denied by Appalachian. Apparently they had all discovered this through the First Connections account that is created when you apply. I, however, have nothing on my account.

I'm now wondering if perhaps they did not receive my record, and count my application as completed, before December 1st. If this were the case I'd understand having to wait, because I know I probably should have sent the application in sooner in case they needed something sent in. However, since I was never given any confirmation that the discipline record they requested was received, I'm now concerned that there was a problem receiving it and my application is still incomplete. Should I attempt to call the admissions office or not? I really don't want to seem like I'm bothering them or seem like I think that they're incompetent. Would they be annoyed that I'm bothering them about a decision and hold it against me?

Call.

I was in a similar situation when I applied to college: it was a school with rolling admissions, and I left it until well after I should have heard. When I contacted them, it turned out that they had somehow started two files for me, and put half my information in one and the other half in the other. If I hadn't contacted them they never would have noticed the problem and I never would have gotten in.

It may be that your discipline record did arrive and you're just one of the last to be notified -- but this is important enough to make sure. Just be polite and friendly when you call.

Yes you should call them as ask, or email and ask if they received the information. Explain that your counselor emailed it the day they asked for it and that you had no way of knowing if they had it or not. If they don't have it, they should let you know and you can send it again...I can't imagine that something like that would affect whether they accept you or not. Especially since you sent all other required materials before the actual deadline.

Better to know than to sit around waiting and being stressed. They aren't going to hold it against you for asking a question...making sure that all of the required and necessary materials are turned in is a sign of responsibility. If anything it would help you, but again, I don't think this will have a bearing on your acceptance/defferal/or denial.

It would absolutely acceptable for you to contact Appalachian. Explain it exactly as you posted here and they will think you are very mature & very interested in them.

Good luck, God bless, & Merry Christmas!
