The first answer is that the local community colleges are all good. I happen to believe the Collin County College is stellar. And boy, what a bargain: my son took three courses at "Quad C" (CCCC = Collin County Community College), and I laughed out loud while I wrote the tuition check (he's about to graduate from a private school in Tennessee).

However, you get your best break on tuition if you live (and have lived for a while) in the district for the community college you are planning to attend. That is, if you want to attend Quad C, consider moving to Collin County instead of Dallas County.

Also, look into what sort of partnerships the community colleges have with local schools that have nursing programs, because if they've done it right, all of your courses will transfer it (they'll fit into the degree plan). Of course, that also means shopping the universities that offer nursing degrees. I believe (but don't know) that two of the best nursing schools locally are in Denton, and I don't know the differences in their costs or reputations.

Wow...Fort Worth is one of the least racist places I can think of honestly. The people there (the native people) are usually warm and friendly. Dallas people (I am from and living in Dallas by the way) are much colder and ruder. Unfortunately for you, so many people have come to Texas from other states and countries, since the late 1980s and really ruined the whole atmosphere here. But Fort Worth should be nice... See the Stockyards, the Bass Hall, the museums, the zoo and come on over to Dallas for the Dallas World Aquarium and the Latino Cultural Center.

I moved to Ft Worth from San Diego in 2006. I won't lie - the weather kinda sucks. But then I was totally spoiled in San Diego. It gets hot in the summer, cold in the winter and the wind blows all the stinkin' time! But, having said that, the people here are very friendly, the cost of living is dirt cheap compared to SoCal and my house value hasn't imploded. We do get tornados through here, but I haven't seen the big F-4 and F-5 type that will strip a home off the foundation. Thank God for that. Our tornados just mess up your roof. :) I chose the Alliance area of north Ft Worth because of the school districts and job growth. The violent crime rate is low but we are starting to get more property crime. Car break-ins, burglaries, etc... Several community college campuses and universities here also. TCU in downtown FW is probably the biggest. UT Arlington is close. Univ North Texas is about 25 miles up the road in Denton. Dallas has a UT campus and SMU located there. I would encourage your move here but warn you to be careful about where you settle in. Ft Worth is huge, geographically, and some areas are pretty scary. Good luck and welcome to town. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
