If you are referring to serving styles at a banquet or other food service event:
French Service
French Style is when the food is plattered tableside. The platters are presented to the guests and the guests pass and serve themselves. This requires more space and service can be slow.
Russian Service
Waiters serve wedding guests individually from a silver platter. Each course is served to each guest individually.
American Service.
Completing one table at a time, waiters carry the food, which is already plated in the kitchen.
Note, however, that there are some differences in what people consider to be French and Russian service. Some notion that Russian service is derivative of French style service.
If you are using this to plan a banquet just make sure that the caterer explains what he or she considers each service style to be.

Classically you have 3 types of service, French, Russian and America, this involves the plate settings, silverware or cutlery used and glasses for wines, water and other beverages, for service as said American is done in the kitchen on the plate and served at the table, French and Russian can be done in the kitchen and either served at the table, finished at the table or cooked table side like flambes, salads appetizers and dessert services. I worked in 4-5 star hotels in Canada, Asia and the Caribbean, when I started out in the 1970's we still did table side french service, with waiter serving from silver trays, with white gloves, and you saw the food being served, you might only find that now in Europe like France or on Cruise Ships in the Formal dining rooms.
