I'm writing my statement of purpose for graduate school and I was wondering if I should try to explain my terrible performance in the first year and a half in my undergraduate education before I switched majors. I know most people say that you should keep the tone of the statement of purpose positive. However, I was a chemical engineering major when I first entered college and did not enjoy the classes in that major and was confused on what I wanted to do; I was basically lost and I ended up flunking a decent portion of the classes at the beginning of my academic career. However, once I switched majors to computer engineering I have pretty much received a 4.0 every semester since then (around 3 years). So basically, do you think I should try to briefly explain my poor performance before I switched my majors and point out that once I found my passion I greatly improved?
Thanks in advance for your help.
