So I got accepted to Cal Poly with the Mathematics major, which I have no idea why I chose it, and UCSC with the computer science major. I decided going to Cal Poly and possibly change my major into computer engineering/science but I have heard that it is very difficult to change your major there especially if it is by different department( math and engineering). Would it be wiser to go to UCSC to pursue computer science there? or should I take a risk and try to get into the engineering department at Cal Poly since it is one of the best Engineering school?
I don't know much about UCSC but I know they have a pretty good bio/chemistry program. I don't mind having biochem as a major but is Cal Poly a better choice for me right now?

UCSC's Computer Science degree is not CAC/ABET-accredited.

Note that Computer Science and Computer Engineering are two different major, thus two different departments. (two different opportunities)

Personally I'd give a call to each department (computer science and the engineering department) and let them know your situation, get the odds from them no one else.

Computer Science= Tel: (909) 869-3440 Fax: (909) 869-4733

Computer Engineering= That's part of the Electrical Engineering & Computer Engineering department=

Cal Poly is still probably going to cost less and you still get a great education. So, i think you just go to Cal Poly and try to change afterwards. If it doesn't get approved, you can still do some good things with the math major.

here is what the college of engineering have to say about changing majors:
