Should I drop a class and take a "W" on my transcript? How bad would it look?

Right now I've got 6 classes, all "A"s except a "D" in my math class because i had a horrible start... If i dropped it and took a W, i'd end up with a 4.2 gpa which would average my overall gpa to 3.7, but how bad would UCs look down on this? If i dropped the class, i would end up taking it in senior year, and i would still have taken 4 years of math, as i took one in summer school.

or wht should i do?

Having a W will look far better than having a D or an F on your transcript. Having a W can mean so many things and can be easily explained if needed; however, having a D or an F is almost impossible to explain, because really, there is no excuse. If you know you're doing that badly, you either clear it up during the semester or you drop the class and pick it up later when your course load isn't so hectic. Admission Committees do not like to see to many W's, but one or two isn't horrible and will not keep you out of the running. A 3.7 Cumulative GPA is still very good and is better than any GPA you would wind up with if you took a D or F.

An F is far worse on your transcripts than an withdrawal because there are many reasons for a withdrawal. Withdrawing from the class is your best option especially if you don't think you will be able to pull it up to an acceptable grade like an A or a B before the semester ends.

A W is always better than an F.
