How can I get my students to pay attention in class?

Weekly quizes, especially if it is a lecture class. The students that do pay attention will find this beneficial to them for studying for the final and those that don't pay attention or don't show up will be "punished" in the grading scale.

Students only pay attention in classes that are entertaining. History is the one and only known subject that has the same dictionary meaning as boring in student lingo. If you have that dull voice like Ben Stein you might as well quit as a teacher. Spark up the interest of your students by making your classes interactive or call on students to answer questions.

Change the routine teaching method that you are currently using. Change is always good to get people to pay attention. Another one is to call on students that are not paying attention.



Also, take the time to observe other teachers. I remember once at an elementary school in NYC, one older teacher had her entire class of 6th grader at her full command and another class with two younger teachers could not keep the kids in check. Learn from others and improve your teaching methods.

As myself as a student its impossible even the really good kids that u think will pay attention they find a way to talk and stuff when ur not looking. But if u punish them in a way they hate then they will pay attention.

I beleive the best to get students to pay attention is to usually add jokes into the lecture, ask for replies to the questions you give them, or if else fails... drop in the word exam while you are speaking

alot of methods work each teacher has their own special method. Try when they get out of hand to sit down and stop teaching and say "Your wasting class time whatever we don't get done it's home work" or make a deal with the students but

if you don't like bribing then i don't know. You'll figure out something like isaid ever body will have or find their best method. GOOD LUCK!!
