There's a sorrority that is coming back to our campus this semester..they have already had their firs informational meeting and are in the process of selecting the girls for this fall semester's line. I really want the sorrority to have a line in the sping as well.. so i emailed her voicing my concerned and here's the email:(the email starts with me emailing her first and the last message is from her)

Hello Ms. _________,

My name is _______,

I was emailing you to see if there would be intake during the spring for Alpha Kappa Alpha becasue I really want to be apart of this sorrority, its been a dream of mine since I was a little girl the bad thing is, spring is my last semester here at ______. Please let me know.

Thanks for reading,

________

Thank you for your interest and I hope that it will work out so that you can attend the next Rush. However, at this time, I can not say if that will be in the Spring of 2011.

Ms. _________

Ok, Thanks
also correct me if I am out of line for asking you this but, What aspects would determine if there would be a Spring line and what are the chances of there being a spring line if I can ask that?

Ps: hope I'm not bugging you with questions, I don't mean to I just don't want to get me hopes up.

Thanks for your time,

___________

That is an internal decision. We will have to see how things go.

The graduate adviser can not answer this question. If you attend a school where they are allowed to have a fall and spring intake process and they often do have both, they chapter members must vote to have a process and that Regional Director must approve that decision. If the chapter is currently involved in MIP for the fall, they will not have made a decision about the spring yet.

I know it can be difficult waiting to see what will happen, especially since you are not participating in the process this semester and are graduating next semester. But, honestly, that's the best answer the grad adviser will be able to provide at this time. Hopefully you have a positive relationship with current members and some of the young ladies who will become members in the near future so that it will benefit you in the Spring.

Best of luck

I guess my question is why didn't you apply now for the fall line?

The adviser is just that, there to advice. I have been adviser to 2 different undergrad chapters and they are free to do what they wish pending they follow National protocol and guidelines. The chapter members vote on whether they will have a line or not. I seriously doubt they will have 2 lines in one year, especially if they take in a good amount of girls. Looking in from the outside, it appears pretty easy to do. However, having a line is a lot of work for the members. You can always apply to an Alumnae chapter after you graduate so don't give up if they do not have a spring line.

I think It all depends on how things are going for the chapter. At this time the advisor will not know if and when they will have MIP in the spring. I say wait and see what happens. If they do not have MIP in the spring make sure you find a graduate chapter and begin attending events and getting to know the ladies.

The last line of your email was unnecessary and that should be something you don't ask. When and if they have MIP in the spring they will post flyers and so forth.

Good Luck

I have three more years before I graduate and waiting to see when and if my school will have MIP.

All of the previous advice was excellent. I am not a member so my advice may not be as good as theirs. Though I wanted to point out that you said "There's a sorrority that is coming back to our campus this semester". Does this mean that they were previously suspended or inactive? If so, many times when chapters come back from being inactive, they have huge lines. Therefore, there will be no hurry to have another intake so soon. They will have more than enough members.

Mia, the previous responses are pretty much on point with the exception of Raichu (waste). If I may leave a bit of advice: please do some grammar/punctuation overviews when consulting an advisor or when/if submitting documents to the sorority. Also, 'sorority' has only one two r's. Please take heed to members' advice.

I think at this time that the sorority adviser is either undecided or against it./

Please ignore Mrs Jones, she's obviously retarded.
