what I did for my Psyc. class was bring in a guest speaker and tell them thier story. Why don't you have a native chinese guest speaker come and help with your presentstion, have you fellow classmate ask questions at the end of your presentation. Focus on something popular in China for example chinese females are trying to be more western nowadays so what they're doing is having thier eyelid lifted so it doesn't look so squinty. They weren't doing this 20 years ago so why r they doing it now?

Paper presentation is individual presentation. you have time to prepare the presentation material (which may be one of the many kinds) on a given subject or project) and present the same to a house. skill of presentation is very much important. some people prepare very good material at home but cannot present wisely in the house. some peaple dont have good material with them but present very nicely and convincingly. mind it 'how you present is much important than what u present'

In group discussion u dont have time to be prapared beforehand . A number of candidates will sit together in a room and u will be given a topic to discuss - may be pros and cons.. u will have to put forward your opinion in a smart and convincing manner. here requires the real skill of u and reveals your depth of knowledge , study , and smartness . I will suggest u - be positive, dont fumble, dont try to be oversmart. If u dont know simply 'pass' but skilfully.

good luck !!

I GAVE MANY PAPER PRESENTATIONS AND ALSO PARTICIPATED IN MANY GROUP DISCUSSIONS I GAVE THE NECESSARY INFO IN LAY MAN TERMS HOPE U FIND IT USEFUL!!

PAPER PRESENTATION IS THE PRESENTATION IN WHICH U SELECT ONE TOPIC AND PREPARE SOME POWER POINT SLIDES REGARDING THE TOPIC U CHOOSE.

ULL HAVE SOME TEN MINUTES(TIME MAY VARY DEPENDING ON THE PRESENTATION BUT IT WILLBE VERY LES GENERALLY)

IN EACH SLIDE ULL XPLAIN FRM INTRODUCTION- WORKING CONCEPTS-APPLICATIONS-EXAMPLES

IN EACH SLIDE ULL NOT WRITE ALOT OF DATA ULL JUST WRITE HEADINGS AND XPLAIN THEM BRIEFLY

AT THE LAST AFTER UR PRESENTATION IS OVER U ASK AUDIENCE FOR QUERIES AND U ANSWER THEM

SO PAPER PRESENTATION IS NOTHING BUT XPLAINING SOME THING USING SLIDES

WHERE AS GROUP DISCUSSION IS SOME THING IN WHICH THERE WILL BE SOME PEOPLE (SAY 10 PPL) SITTING OPPOSITE TO EACH OTHER.

THE COORDINATOR WILL GIVE U THE TOPIC( TOPIC MAY BE GENERAL OR RECENT INCIDENT OR MOST HAPPENING EVENT )

HE WILL GIVE 2 MIN FOR THINKING ON THE TOPIC U JOT DOWN ALL UR POINTS ON PAPER

THEN AS SOON AS THE DISCUSSION STARTS U NEED TO SAY ABT THE THINGS WHICH U THINK ARE RELEVENT TO THE TOPIC

BUT U NEED TO FOLLOW THE RULES

1. WEN U FIRST SAY ABT TOPIC BEFORE OTHERS ULL HAVE GOOD POINTS IN UR POCKET

2. DONT ARGUE OR HAVE VERBAL FIGHT.

3 SPEAK IN GENERAL ENGLISH DONT USE HITECH WORDS.

4 HAVE EYE CONTACT WITH OTHER PEOPLE.

5. NEVER SHAKE LEGS OR PLAY WITH PEN OR BITE NAILS ETC.

6.ALWAYS RAISE HAND IF U HAVE SOME POINT TO MAKE AND U WONT GET CHANCE

7. NEVER EVER LOOK AT THE COORDINATOR WHO WATCHES AND EXAMINES UR DISCUSION.

8. ATLAST, WEN COORDINATOR ASKS TO SUMMARIZE BE READY TO GRAB THE OPPURTUNITY.

9. UR ENGLISH SHUD BE GOOD.

Every one once in their life time goes throug such fears once they entered this field..... to overcome this first u need to build up urself in communication skills.... once u do masters in it u can move forward without hesitation....... if u r good at english its not so difficult for u to overcome these.... if u r not good at english u first start speaking in english...... start reading news papers well n try to gather new words......

confidence lacks only if u r lazy in improving ur selves.... so once wakeup n put effort........once u started trying cofidence buildsup easily......

Paper presentaions include slide shows which is not a big matter if u r familiar with power point....for this u need to gain sufficient knowledge on the topic n prepare slides that includes the synopsys.... once u r confident abt ur topic n english... nobody can stop u...

GD's require only english n open mindedness..... u no need to bother even if u have nill knowledge abt the topic... u can listen to ur group mates discussion n then participate in the discussion with ur own ideas... it doesn't matter either u r positive or negative towards the topic..... it only matters if u r deviating from the topic....

keep going n keep trying u'll always suceed..

Group discussion means you have to speak and discuss upon a certain topic among a group of people. Its just like chatting among a group of friends over a topic. And paper presentation is to present or make a project over a certain topic in paper. Its much like what you did in school as various projects in different topics.

For the GD part, you can improve yourself by practicing spoken english, listening to english news channels so as to understand the various english accents, being up-to-date to the current and various affairs around the world so that you can have much funda about any topic you are asked to speak on, and lastly, and most important, being frank to various unknown people. You should easily mix and start a chat with any type of people.

For the PP, you should have the correct and in-depth knowledge in the topic you are given to make the PP on. And you should also have the proficiency in making the project which you can acquire by going through different types of previous PP....

I HOPE YOU WILL FIND MY ANSWER USEFUL.... BEST OF LUCK.....

Have you ever seen a football game?

Or been a part of a football team?

As in a football game, where you play like a team, passing the ball to each team member and aim for a common goal, GD is also based on team work, incorporating views of different team members to reach a common goal.

A Group Discussion at a college/School can be defined as a formal discussion involving ten to 12 participants in a group.

They are given a topic. After some time, during which they collect their thoughts, the group is asked to discuss the topic for 20 to 25 minutes.

Colleges / Schools use the GD process to assess a candidate's personality traits.

Here are some of the most important personality traits that a candidate should possess to do well at a GD:

1. Team Player

2. Reasoning Ability

Reasoning ability plays an important role while expressing your opinions or ideas at a GD.

3. Leadership

Caution: Being a mere coordinator in a GD does not help, because it is a secondary role.

Contribute to the GD with your ideas and opinions, but also try and steer the conversation towards a goal.

4. Flexibility

You must be open to other ideas as well as to the evaluation of your ideas: That is what flexibility is all about.

5. Assertiveness

You must put forth your point to the group in a very emphatic, positive and confident manner.

Participants often confuse assertiveness with aggressiveness.

Aggressiveness is all about forcing your point on the other person, and can be a threat to the group. An aggressive person can also demonstrate negative body language, whereas an assertive person displays positive body language.

6. Initiative

A general trend amongst students is to start a GD and get the initial kitty of points earmarked for the initiator.

But that is a high risk-high return strategy.

Initiate a GD only if you are well versed with the topic. If you start and fail to contribute at regular intervals, it gives the impression that you started the GD just for the sake of the initial points.

Also, if you fumble, stammer or misquote facts, it may work against you.

Remember: You never ever get a second chance to create a first impression.

7. Creativity/ Out of the box thinking

An idea or a perspective which opens new horizons for discussion on the GD topic is always highly appreciated.

When you put across a new idea convincingly, such that it is discussed at length by the group, it can only be positive.

You will find yourself in the good books of the examiner.

8. Inspiring ability

A good group discussion should incorporate views of all the team members.

If some team members want to express their ideas but are not getting the opportunity to do so, giving them an opportunity to express their ideas or opinions will be seen as a positive trait.

Caution: If a participant is not willing to speak, you need not necessarily go out of the way to ask him to express his views. This may insult him and hamper the flow of the GD.

9. Listening

Always try and strike a proper balance between expressing your ideas and imbibing ideas.

10. Awareness

You must be well versed with both the micro and macro environment.

Your awareness about your environment helps a lot in your GD content, which carries maximum weightage.

Caution: The content or awareness generally constitutes 40 to 50 percent marks of your GD.

Apart from these qualities, communication skills, confidence and the ability to think on one's feet are also very important.

Paper presentation is U'll be an individual to present ur paper.

U need to be confident... think others dunno anything... think what ever u presented is correct and forget about others.... try to talk with all professors regarding ur subjects... u can automatically improve ur confidence.

All the best...takecare !!
