Should I go to a cc or go to cal poly pomona?

Hello, so I want to become a programmer in the games industry. However uc santa cruz isn't using a waitlist this year, so I can't go to a UC school besides riverside. My backup plan is Cal Poly Pomona, should I go there or just go to a CC and transfer?

CalPoly-Pomona is a very good school, but your idea of being a "programmer" in the game industry is not realistic,. There are far too many gullible fanboys for too few jobs.



Take CalPoly's degree in Computer Engineering Technology.

If you can pay the tuition, an even better degree is Software Engineering Technology at Oregon Institute of Technology.

Unlike another person who answered your question, I've worked alongside programmers within the game industry. It's not an unrealistic goal. One of those programmers was self-taught, while others had degrees from varying schools around California. The school doesn't matter as much as what you learn matters. As long as you learn good programming practices and principles, you'll be able to find work.

my friend went to cal poly and loved it! the parking is HORRIBLE but i hear the classes are good as well as the student body/professors. Community colleges are really impacted but you can always do that route ( I did that myself back in 2007....but it wasnt as crazy lol). You can also register at Cal Poly and take transferable courses at a community college. I did that a few times too (to get ahead). Hope that helps!
