I'm surprised you are surprised. Don't you think we are so jaded that almost nothing riles us up? Aren't we all about something other than conversations on morality and what's right and wrong? We don't care about poverty or war or rape or animal slaughter or toxic waste or erosion or global warming or poisoned oceans or nothing else!
So why do you care about this child assault thing? Please explain what feelings motivate you to feel like you do.

I am not shocked that a university which is the church of football and the temple of beer would cover up a criminal to protect both of its most cherished activities. When you subsume the values that an academic institution os supposed to teach which includes integrity, you lose your identity as a university and become a combination stadium/bar where all you expect are constant highs and constant profits.

That Joe Paterno turned out to be a self-serving old hypocrite is no surprise. He is both a purveyor of the football first attitude and its first victim. I believe that he began with ideals but when you sell out to a corporation where profits come first, this is where you eventually end up. The money-making machine that is football and its glorification to the student body is a trap where ideals are sodomized even before the children are victimized.

Your question, how written, implies that everyone is "really, really shocked" "about the Penn state thing", but I'm not shocked, at all. Politics will never shock me.
