Many people will tell you Political Science is the way to go, but I would suggest English as the best major for law. No matter what your specialty turns out to be, in law you are going to spend a majority of your time reading and writing. Getting a good leg up on your English skills will put you in the best place to be successful both in law school and in your career afterward.

Law Schools do not require that you have a specific major but will want to see certain classes taken as an undergrad like political science and history. They want to make sure you understand the basic concepts of law and how our system of laws has come about in our country.

I think you will do better at law school admissions if you are well rounded and show an ability to tackle many different types of subject matter. You will need to be proficient in many other arenas in order to be a successful attorney.

I am a lawyer (and was previously an in house lawyer). You can go to law school regardless of your major. I suggest you pick a major that you are really interested in rather than trying to pick something just to help your odds of getting in law school. But many law students choose political science as their major and maybe English as a minor. If you want to be an in house lawyer, business may be a good major. I was a Communications major with an emphasis in public speaking.

You can major in literally anything and go on to law school. It is a seperate education entirely. I am currently an accounting major and looking at law school so I can specialize in tax law and that kind of thing. Most common would probably be political science before law school.

There is no specific degree that will get you into law school. However, some majors that will help to prepare you for law are: pre-law, psychology, political science, math, english, and history. I hope this answers your question.

Your undergrad major isn't that important (we had one person who graduated from mortuary school).

I went to law school later in life and I had majored in poli sci.

But do get a solid grounding in writing. If I had known back then what I know now, I would have taken as many writing courses as I could. Throughout school I believed that those students who superior ability to express themselves through their writing had a leg up. Especially when I was struggling through a four-hour all essay final.

It really doesn't matter what your major is if you wish to get into law school. You major in something that you are interested in and speak with a counselor about getting into law school.
