MONA,you are doing good so far,im glad you want to better your english,I would reccomend, just pick up the dictionary, read it page by page and get familiar with nouns, adjectives, pro nouns and so fourth,... study that,

I know a few people who have done this and have had better english speaking skills, also helps one to speak correct english.

best Wishes, ;o)

This may sound strange: Watch children's movies and DVD's, Sesame Street, many other PBS shows "Between the Lions" is one that focuses on the written language/reading skills. Also check out books/stories from the children's section of the library. Nobody is going to think you are strange, they don't know why you are checking them out. They probably just think you have small children at home, or you're a teacher collecting supplies. The reason I suggest the "kid" study materials is because it is simple. It is meant to teach children in America how to speak English. It is a terrific place to practice at a slower pace. Once you are comfortable with the language (oral and written) then work your way up to the teen and adult materials. There is more slang in these, more dialects/accents that may be unfamiliar to you, so I would not start out with these. Start with the kid stuff.

Place yourself in an evironment where everyone around you speaks English. Avoid speaking in your native tongue. It's amazing how quickly you can learn a language out of necessity.

Also, take the time to practice your writing skills. Get some pen pals. Writing will give you an opportunity to look things up that people may write to you and will force you research what they are talking about; it'll give you insight on the culture behind some saying and phrases. Ask that they write in normal terms and not simple for you to understand terms.

Reading is always an excellent idea. Read like crazy. It will be difficult at first but will get easier with time. Start with books meant for younger people and gradually move towards more difficult books. Look up words you don't understand and try using them in your everyday sentences. This will enable you to enhance your vocabulary and improve your english skills. But remember that English is a very difficult language to learn. so be patient and keep at it!

Lots of contact with people who speak English well, and listening to tapes, reading, and watching movies and TV (a little.) Get out and mix. Join a club.

Talk, Talk and more talk. Talk to yourself in english if there isn't any one you can converse with. Use yahoo messenger or icq to talk with english speakers. The only way to get better is to speak as much as possible.

In order to learn a language you must read it, listen to it and speak it.
