I'd be surprised if that's how it got its name. Cordon Bleu means blue ribbon, ie a winning entry in a contest. I'd think they earned some blue ribbons and perhaps because of THAT they put a blue ribbon on their costume, if they have that, I don't know, but I can't imagine that they put the ribbon on their costume THEN thought to name the school that ...

This is what I found out - and it is the ribbon, but there's interesting history behind it:

Cordon bleu (k?r`d?n" bl?") [F., blue cordon], a first-rate cook, or one worthy to be the cook of the cordons bleus, or Knights of the Holy Ghost, famous for their good dinners.



And I'm guessing they were called that because of the other definition:
