I got a job offer for 60K/yr as a logistics analyst in south NJ. I had been terminated 6 mos. back from my last consulting job for a tiny company after barely 2 mos, but after looking for work for a while I kinda gave up and got myself admitted into the Masters in Accounting program at UT Austin. Now after 1 month into my new program one of the companies I had interviewed 40 days back finally offerred me 60K for a job. I feel that if I was in a finance/ accounting to begin with I wouldnt have to wait for so long to get another job. SO what do you all think...should I continue in the accounting masters or take up the job? I have substantial scholarships for the MAcc program . On the other hand the salary is 60K. WHich would be better in the long run?

Ooooo...tough decision.

Honestly, it'll depend on your situation. My suggestion is to really weigh the options. If I recall, it's not terribly easy to get into the UT masters program (I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure about that). If you stick it out, you could be making some serious coin when you get done.

However, if you have a family and need the money now, your answer is already there. Take the job.

As for the long run, stay in school. You are in a field that seems to have legs, my friend. Get your education, get your CPA, and make some real money down the line.

I think I would definitely not jump the gun on deciding. If you're a pretty young guy (under 30) and this program is fairly difficult to get into, I'd say pursue your education. In all honesty, if you have the right credentials 60K jobs will be the least of your worries. It'll be a higher income bracket that you'll have to worry about. 60K is 60K...relatively not that much. You have to make yourself viable and add value to your Analyst career. I've had many, many jobs and have worked for Fortune 500 hundred companies that really value education. With that said, ultimately it's your choice, but personally I'd go the school route.

I'm suprised you didn't figure this out yourself... Take the job and continue your education on line, if you don't want or can't attend classes. Take the job! Take the job! I would kill for a job that pays HALF THAT! (no, I wouldn't REALLY, I'm just sayin'!) Plus most likely the job has tuition reimbursment, most jobs do these days. So it's like they pay for you to advance your education. Good luck whatever you decide.

Take the job, how often do you get an offer of 60K per year. You can do a masters anytime.

I say take the job AND go to school. I've just been offered a job at 70K a year and I only have an AS, but I will still go to school. Jobs come and go, but an education is forever!!
