I'm in highschool and hear both words used for the same purposes. F*g generally is used as something like fa**ot light. It's used not as harshly and almost as often as "like". Fa**ot is used more often as something along the lines of "you a jack a**" or "a mother *$#%@$." They mean the exact same things, but it's just for the situations they're used in.

well i think the difference is that
fa***-refers to someone in a bad way. usually demeaning and is one of those words (its one of those words that has demeaningly been used in the mainstreem and has been applied in a deameaning way to other people. look about it below)
fa*-usually a demeaning reference to people in the homosexual community.
Note: saying "thats gay" should not be used because linguistically it is demeaning to homosexual people, even if the target is not.
