Can people who have used UCAS before ony answer because I'd like serious answers please :)

I have missed the deadline for a course I want to study at University (deadline: jan 15th 2011), and was wondering if there is any way around this and I can go on some sort of waiting list or if I have to just wait till next year to apply again?

Thanks in advance!

UCAS will still be passing late applications on to the unis until the end of June. It is at the unis discretion as to whether or not they look at the application though. If you do apply late you have to explain in your personal statement why you applied late. Your other option is to apply through clearing in July/August.

You can try, but to be honest most Universities will have given out most of their places by now. A quote from UCAS says;

"Applications received by the above deadlines are guaranteed to be considered by the universities and colleges. Applications received at UCAS after the deadlines, up until 30 June, will only be considered by the universities and colleges if they still have vacancies for the course(s) you have selected "

It depends on what course you are doing, but most courses or universities will have no spaces left. Bear in mind that universities don't get your application straight away, it takes a few days for UCAS to process it. Also, competition for places is extremely tough this year, so it's unlikely they will have many left. Pretty much everyone I know has heard from all the Universities, so I doubt any will have kept places when so many people applied before the deadline.

So my advice would be to go ahead and try, but don't get your hopes up, as most places will be taken. It's worth trying though, you never know, and you can always try again next year if you don't get a place this year

Good luck :)

you can try now, but the university will decide if they wish to accept you or not. most universities still accept applicants after the pass date, i would say just make sure that your personal statement is actually excellent. obviously the people that have entered theirs earlier will be priority, but you MAY be okay. also will take longer for them to get back to you, our deadline is something like may whereas i think yours is june for later applicants.

good luck!

also, just a bit of extra information.

the student finance website is now up and running so get that sorted so at least you've got something done!
