Question:
Ibook vs college textbooks?

I'm sick and tired of buying expensive college textbooks, because I only barely used them in one semester, and when i'm going to sell them back to the college I only get like 10 percent of the value. So, I was thinking. Should I buy my books from Ibook or ebook, and get a kindle or ipad that way i can save some money, or you think is a bad idea.

I agree college textbooks are way too expensive! It's ridiculous! I started renting my books b/c it's so much cheaper. I rented them from chegg.com and honestly saved over $500 bucks this semester. I recommend renting it's easy, cheap, and convenient. Also if you use this code CC106371 you can save 5% off your order. Trust me don't use amazon I did that once and never got my two books! I got ripped off!

I'm still very old fashioned when it comes to textbooks and I think that you should buy a physical textbook. It's easier to read, you can highlight and take notes in the book if you want to as well. Also technology can always fail you, for instance if you lose, break, or forget to bring your digital book.

Many schools are now starting to offer cheaper alternatives such as renting books for a low price. I would also check websites like Amazon. A lot of times students will sell their books on Amazon for a comparable price that they purchased their book for, since most school book stores often will only purchase your book back for a fraction of what it cost you.

However, you could always go eBook route and should you decide that it's not for you then you can still always purchase the textbooks.

Hope that helps!

@ Cherry Bomb, though I'm a book lover, I get to disagree with you. The new Kindle can last for one month on a single charge, while many mobile phone (like iPhone) can last no more than one day. Is it really likely to get the Kindle out of battery?

And even though I love actual books, I've to accept the fact that ebook will become more and more popular because it is so much convenient, eco-friendly, and we can get dictionary, annotations, highlights, read aloud to us, all with a device without bringing another dictionary or pen or audio book. We can put thousands of favorite books in one, instead of bringing tiles of heavy books. It's a trend, we need to accept and live with it, otherwise even ourselves with get sunk in the wave and get lost in the society.

I miss the past time when I write letter with paper, but now I accept and enjoy the convenience brought to me by email. I miss the days I listen to music from cassette, but now I accept to listen music in MP3. Does cassette company closed down? Yes if they do not catch up the trend to do other things in demand. So newspapers, magazines, even though people read things from internet, many news still come from newspapers' website and if they are smart enough and do well, they can earn enough money from web advertisement. That's the future trend, don't pull people stay with you, everyone get to move :D

Here is another original book die-hard lover, you can see how she says about the Kindle:

Ok, enough for these. So I love my Kindle very much. If you're thinking about getting the Kindle, I'll say get it and you won't regret. You can use it for textbooks without problem. Right now I've read over 10 books with the Kindle, and I really like the idea that I can bring and store all the books with the handy device. Besides, it uses the e-ink technology, it is really clear like reading books; and even I read with the device for long hours, I don't feel tired. The internet browsing comes handy as well when I want to look for information on some specific area. My only complaint is the white case, the Kindle is only sold in white at the time when I got it, but now the new Kindle has graphite case which looks much better ;)

And there are some websites, where you can find more than a million of free books for the Kindle, so that's why you no longer need to get to library, you can actually own these books:

If you need to read PDF with charts and graphics, you may want to go for the larger Kindle DX (both the new Kindle and the new Kindle DX are now at a cheaper price and with better contrast). Read this review and you should be able to decide which one to get:

It is good idea to buy textbooks in ebook format. It saves money and weights to be carried around.

And it is always the best to read some actual user opinions. Here are some very good user opinions about the iPad as compared to the Kindle:

And Amazon just announced a new Kindle 3 and it is even better. If you want to get it you better place the order as early as possible, to make sure you get it on the release date. If the first batch sold out, you will need to wait longer for the second batch to arrive.

Reading the book instead of enjoying the movie is the ultimate way to see what the writer intended. Reading uses your imagination, hones your reading skills, and can make your vocabulary

Honestly-if you want the best textbook selection, get an iPad. You get iBooks, the Kindle app, the Nook app, and you can get EPUBs on it fairly easily.

Read actual books! Because, what if you run out of battery, will you just have to stop reading? With actual books, you can read for however long you want. And what if something goes wrong with the Kindle, like it breaks or something? With actual books, you can't "break" a book, you can tear a page but you can just tape it back.

Books are meant to be read on paper, not a screen. That's how it always has been until the invention of e-books which are silly. Don't we people get enough screens and buttons in our lives? Why must we read books on screens, that's like the only thing left that people read on paper. Hell, even newspapers are starting to go down because people read the news on their computers.

It doesn't count to read a book on a screen and call yourself an avid reader. I think it would be sad to see books totally die out so please, can you help keep books alive by not buying an e-book? Please?

I am using Kindle 2. Wireless is a unique feature I will say and that's make really value for money. 3G wireless and global coverage, I personally travel a lot and really worthy for me. You can have any newspaper at any place and also they are cheaper. The best selling value for the Kindle is convenience for the travel, it’s pretty handy and easy to carry anywhere with you. The other important thing matters to me are speedy for downloading books and reading material. Also it allow around average size of 1500 books and reading material to store, so is a significant amount of storage space to bring with you. In one line I can say “you are carrying your book shelf with you”.

Also one of the other feature of Kindle is it’s E-INK screen technology that don’t glare in any light so no strain to eyes and you can read for hours.

Also you save a lot in compare to the actual books, the books on kindle are really cheaper so I have saved a lot till now. Also there are plenty of books on kindle to choose. Also it has so good features such as Text-To-Speech which is really useful when you get bored or doing some other activity.
