Suspended From College, What to do?!?

My first semester freshman year (this past fall), I was placed on disciplinary probation, and then had a serious alcohol violation following that. I was suspended for the rest of the semester. I appealed the suspension and was reinstated for the Spring semester following the completion of alcohol counseling.

I went back this semester, and had a new roommate. I was still drinking and smoking a little bit, but being responsible about doing it. My roommate reported me for being drunk and smoking weed, which they were able to prove based on multiple people in my new dorms admissions of seeing me possess paraphernalia.

I was suspended for the remainder of this spring semester, and the fall. Upon completion of more alcohol/drug counseling I can return in the Fall.

Is this something that will permanently damage my resume? Will another school take me?

In the mean time, I'm looking for something like a service trip to really teach me a lesson, or something of that sort. Does anyone have any ideas?

I find there to be some pretty harsh comments here.

1. You DO need to get your life right and clean up...I'm not sure if this is "party stage" thing or you truly have problems that need to be addressed in a substance abuse sort of setting. If you can just quit/grow up, do it, otherwise seek help. I was in a simliar situation before - not quite as bad as you - but was there.

2. Your life is not doomed, and yeah there is probably a college that will take you. They typically don't turn away people's money. If for some reason they don't , get back in this school in a year and get some decent work experience in the mean time. BUT make sure you go back somewhere after your hiatus.

Wow, did you not learn from the first time?? I don't live in america so i do not really know what a college is (in UK it is where you go at age 16-19). Unfortunately i would say that not many schools will take you with that on your resume. But there are some schools that will. You could always go to Narcotics Anonymous to help the problem with drugs and this will incline more schools to take you, that you are confident in taking responsibility for your actions.

yikes. yes all of this goes on your record. another school will most likely not take you...

you need to be a man and stop your own issues. (not trying to be rude)

you need to remove all the mary jane from your processions and don't tell your dealer about it. Don't even talk to who you get it from. if you find that alcohol is an issue, try an AA or some sort of prevention class.

or self discipline class or something to show that you really do want to stay in college and that you're willing to make the necessary changes. Im actually shocked they kept you. usually second offense your expelled.

goodluck :)

How about thinking about how you would like to employ someone like yourself?

How could you convince you that you could be relied upon to do a good job?

How could you convince you that although you have an alcohol problem you aren't irresponsible?

How could you convince you that even though you smoke dope you are still employable?

Would you like to employ someone who might drink drive while in your employ?

Would you like to employ someone who might be stoned while working for you?

How good a job could you do in an inebriated state?

If you were the principal of the college/university/school - why should you give you yet 'another' chance after letting you down twice before?

How many times are you going to blatantly defy the rules?

You will always have trouble getting and maintaining gainful employment while you abuse drink and drugs.

Wake up to yourself - and good luck!
