I applied to Santa Clara University and received a letter saying I will be placed on the waiting list after I send in a form. SCU was my first choice and I am going to send in the form, but how many students get in if they received 10,216 applications? Also how do they choose which students are going to get in after the accepted students have replied? How do they place students on the waiting list apart from being on the rejection list? I know FinAid will now be very limited to me, but what kind of money would I receive from them is I do get in? Because of the recession, would you recommend me going here even though money from SCU would be limited?

Well, you have to remember that a lot of the other applicants were simply turned away and rejected. You are on a relatively short list of people still waiting to get in. Now, you have to realize that not everyone who was accepted is going to decide to go to SCU anyway. They may choose another school. Your chances are still pretty good of being admitted.

Yes, however, because of the economic downturn that America is currently in, I would suggest going to another school (because if you are on a waiting list, chances are that you will not be awared the greatest scholarships, and students can used all the financial help they can get). But, ultimately, the decision is entirely up to you.

Good luck.

I GOT THE SAME THING in the mail TODAY. i was looking online to see if other students got the same thing i did, and i stumbled upon this question! yes, santa clara is also my first choice, and i got wait listed as well. The wait list at SCU is not ranked at all, basically when accepted students say that they are not going to SCU (the deadline to say which college your going to and put down a deposit for regis. is may 1st) after that, they'll see how much room they have for the freshmen class. Then, according to the "university need" basis they will accept kids from the wait list (thats why we won't know until late may) everyone on the wait list is on the same level basically. "university need" means they look at how diverse their freshman class is, and see what they need more of (asians, latinos, caucasions, business majors, biology majors, dancers, sports players, etc) and accept accordingly. ANYWAY, don't stress over it too much, i mean im in the EXACT SAME BOAT AS YOU!! we're all feelin the pain dear it will be okay my fellow wait-lister! look on the bright side, its not a rejection letter! oh and im leila from maui, hawaii by the way!

Dude, I searched on: Santa Clara university waiting list.

and got to:

where it says, presumably for last year:

Applicants Placed on Waiting List: 1,382

Applicants Accepted from Waiting List: 356

Students Enrolled from Waiting List: 151

Send in the form and include a self-addressed, stamped envelope asking them how many people are on the list before you. Hurry...

> would you recommend me going here even though money...

Personally, I don't know how important the first year or two of college are. You can probably take lots of introductory courses at a community college or a state college. Lots of great people graduated from public colleges. I transferred after 2 years...

It depends on how much money you and your parents have, and what kind of careers you're looking at...
