so obviously unis dont like resits.
but the question is, what is a 'RESIT'
is it resitting an exam(s)?
or resitting an alevel?
or resitting a levelS? so basically resitting the entire year?

also, if you resit, how/will/when/what will universities find out?
and what if you were to resit alevels, with a different exam board?
who will find out? will they even find out?

so many questions
thank you in advance

To resit an exam is to retake a unit from either your AS year or your A2 year in order to receive a better grade. Universities generally don't mind you retaking AS exams in your A2 year, and are informed that you are doing so via your UCAS application (you MUST inform them of your AS performance, even if you are retaking. You will show that you are retaking or resubmitting that unit, they will see that it is not representative of your final grade, and thus they will look at your predicted grades more closely). Uni's do get a little touchy about you having to retake entire A Levels or entire years. Sometimes if it takes you 2 attempts at sitting an A Level (e.g. you fail your AS year and have to do it again, or you fail your A2 year and you have to do it again), it forces the more competitive Universities to give you a higher offers. I know Edinburgh does this. If it takes you more than 2 tries, they may be inclined to reject you completely.

Resiting is not such a big deal for the vast majority of Universities, and resiting just one or two units/exams really won't affect your application. In order to resit a unit/exam, you will need to do so with the exam board you sat the exam with the first time, otherwise it's not technically a resit but rather taking a new A Level completely. You do this through your College or School's exams office, and pay the resit charge (which can be as cheap as £15 or as expensive as £40. I did a couple of resits, and never paid more than £20). It'll be added to your exam time table, and sat along with your other exams either in the January or May/June exam period.

I hope this clears things up for you, and good luck!

An A level resit is usually just resitting the exam. Believe me, I've had to do 2 of them

It relies upon whether you have gained a grade above c or under. whether it fairly is above C then an above A ought to get you an A. whether, it fairly is frustrating to do for some, resit could be greater useful.
