I was paying for college apps and I got a message saying, "Your payment, detailed below, was declined due to the following reason(s): FAILURE VM." What does it mean?

Common App has released a statement saying that they are having difficulties with the payment company they are working with. Just make sure to send in all of your application forms before the deadline, and you can pay later.

Having the same issue. The third party server which hosts payments for the commonapp website has been flooded with traffic, causing a DOS crash.
It's been this way for a few hours, so your best bet is probably to spam the server with your payments until you get through.
If you're not using commonapp, it's very likely that whatever you are using is generating the same issue.
Regards and best of luck,
Evan

Yeah, this has been happening for hours with Yale too.
Anybody have any idea what happens if it continues to not work past midnight (for me, on the west coast) or even further? Will our payments and/or application be counted as late?
What does Yale usually do in these circumstances when their servers have issues?

Happening to us too!
It's only occurring for BU though, other schools accepted the payment.
Just wait for an hour or two and it should clear up!
Good Luck

No idea. We got the same thing 2 minutes ago. Tried 2 different credit cards, both said the same.
It worked with E-check!!
We were applying to WPI and BU.

From what i can tell this is a universal problem for everyone applying to BU my advice it to wait until later tonight when there wont be too much traffic. if that doesn't work i'm probably going to contact BU or the common app, i suggest you do too. if a lot of people contact them i'm sure they will be understanding. just don't spam your credit card.

This is happening to me right now as well! I'm guessing it means that there are too many students trying to pay for their apps right now so the virtual machine (VM) has crashed or is just overcrowded or something.
